Top tips to edit your own wardrobe

I bet it wouldn’t surprise you to know that we wear 80% of our clothes, 20% of the time.  With my top tips, I will help you to create a wardrobe that you will love and make getting dressed a breeze!

Grab your favourite drink, pop some tunes on and let’s get started.

Create 3 piles:

1: Items you love and are keeping

2: Pieces you love but need to be altered or mended

3: Items that can be rehomed

If like me you have Summer clothes packed away, dig them out as there could be some little gems in there that can work all year round so you can maximise their use, reduce your CPW (cost per wear) and curate a more sustainable wardrobe.

Remove items from your wardrobe that you no longer wear, don’t spark joy, or have seen better days.

Now everything that is left, try on in the mirror.  Ask yourself:

– Does it fit in all the right places and suit your lifestyle?

– Does it flatter my body shape and highlight my assets?

– Does it suit my colouring?

Be honest with yourself and ask if this was in the shops right now, would you purchase it? If the answer is no, then say goodbye and give it a new home.  This will free up vital space in your wardrobe to allow you to see what you’ve got to work with….

Challenge yourself to try and create new outfits and play around with different combinations, take pictures as you’re going along to refer back to.  And remember, a great outfit is all about creating the right propositions and finishing the look with the right accessories.

Identify what you are missing and make a list, this will help you stay on track when you shop.

Now it’s time to get organised….. Watch out Marie Kondo!   Organise your items into a system that works for you, group together:

  • Dresses
  • Skirts
  • Tees
  • Shirts
  • Knitwear
  • Denim
  • Jackets & coats
